Chapter 51. Fate Of The Subjugated King

Du Yan placed his hand on the palace door, and when he was about to push it open, he stopped.

Cheng Yu seemed to know what he was thinking the first time and said: “Don’t worry, I didn’t touch anyone in the palace.”

Du Yan glanced at Cheng Yu and said: “I know you wouldn’t kill indiscriminately.”

The Queen Mother and Yuan Ning had already left the capital under Du Yan’s arrangement and lived in seclusion in a beautiful place with clear water and mountains.

Cheng Yu is not a tyrant who kills indiscriminately. As long as Du Yan does not escape, Cheng Yu will not pursue their whereabouts. The two of them may live a much more comfortable life in the future than in the palace.

Du Yan pushed open the door, and his vision slowly widened. He thought he might see a mess or countless Cheng Kingdom’s soldiers holding long spears, but everything in front of him was different from what he expected.

Inside the palace, everything was still in good order. Except for the guards being replaced by soldiers wearing the armor of the Cheng Kingdom, there seemed to be no difference from the past.

Cheng Yu was trying to maintain the last bit of dignity of a ruler who had lost his land. It must be said that this thoughtfulness moved Du Yan’s heart. Although he had anticipated everything that would happen today, and he took the initiative to move towards this ending, it was always good to be able to exit in a less disgraceful manner in the end.

When Du Yan walked out of the palace, Cheng soldiers didn’t even move their eyes, as if their only duty was to guard the palace.

“Let’s go. I’ll have someone prepare your usual things.” Cheng Yu said: “Do you have a serving maid to take with you?”

Du Yan asked: “Where are you taking me?”

“I’ll take you to Yicheng.” Cheng Yu said.

Du Yan was a little surprised: “Yicheng?”

Yicheng is the new capital of Cheng Kingdom, located in the original territory of Jiang. It was inevitable for Cheng Kingdom to move its capital. The original capital of Cheng Kingdom was too close to the southern end. After Cheng Yu unified the country, it was no longer suitable as the capital.

Cheng Yu said: “Yicheng is a little warmer than here, but it still snows in winter. You would like it.”

Du Yan said: “Whether I like it or not, I will spend the rest of my life there. Can I ask you for a favor?”

Cheng Yu didn’t know why, but seemed pleased by Du Yan’s words just now, and a smile appeared in his eyes: “Go ahead and say it.”

“If the people in the palace have done nothing wrong, let them stay in their homeland.”

Cheng Yu nodded: “As you wish, follow me.”

Du Yan followed Cheng Yu all the way out of the palace. Outside the palace gate, he felt a sense of doom for a subjugated king.

Outside the palace gate, Cheng Yu’s army was everywhere, and the murderous aura was overwhelming. There was a carriage parked opposite the palace gate.

Du Yan originally thought that it was Cheng Yu’s carriage. Because that carriage was much larger than ordinary carriages, and there were four horses pulling the carriage in front, it looked like the standard for the emperor’s travel at that time.

Cheng Yu led him to the side of the carriage and signaled: “You take this carriage to Yicheng.”

Du Yan raised his eyebrows slightly in surprise: “I thought there was a prisoner wagon waiting for me.”

Cheng Yu said: “How could you have such a ridiculous idea?”

“That’s what I am now.” Du Yan said: “Lower class prisoner.”

Cheng Yu came over and whispered in Du Yan’s ear: “You are indeed a prisoner at this moment, but not a lower class prisoner, but a prisoner who belongs to me…”

Du Yan just felt his ears itching, and before Cheng Yu could finish his words, he gently pushed him away and took the initiative to get on the carriage.

Cheng Yu didn’t bother and followed Du Yan into the carriage.

The interior of the carriage was decorated quite luxuriously, with soft fur covering the wide seat. Cheng Yu stepped forward and opened the secret compartment under the seat, which contained neatly arranged cakes, books, and even a chessboard.

Du Yan’s eyes lingered on the chessboard for a moment longer, and he heard Cheng Yu say: “When you feel bored, just call me, and I’ll come in and play chess with you.”

Du Yan asked: “What about you?”

Cheng Yu smiled and said: “I should naturally ride a horse outside to guard you.”

Du Yan also knew that in this situation, Cheng Yu was indeed not suitable to ride in the same carriage with him, as one was the supreme ruler of the country, and the other was the ruler of a fallen kingdom.

Du Yan sat in the carriage, listening to the rolling sound. The carriage was very stable, with almost no shaking. If it weren’t for the narrow space, he would almost think he was still in the palace.

There is a reason why the carriage is so stable, and Du Yan knew it a few days ago.

It was when he opened the side window of the carriage that day that he discovered the difference in this carriage. After the side window was opened, he saw a cast iron fence outside.

Du Yan carefully studied the fence and found that the entire carriage frame was probably made of cast iron, and then the appearance of the carriage was created with wooden boards.

This is indeed a prisoner wagon. No wonder it needs four horses to pull the carriage.

Perhaps Du Yan kept the side window open for too long, Cheng Yu in front of him quickly noticed his action.

Cheng Yu pulled the reins and let the horse and the carriage move forward together: “Are you unhappy?”

Du Yan glanced at him and said: “This is a prisoner wagon. Why did you go to the trouble of making it so comfortable and luxurious?

Cheng Yu said frankly: “This carriage is indeed made of cast iron, but it is not a prisoner wagon. I am just worried that you will escape.”

“I’m in this situation now. How can I escape?” Du Yan frowned slightly.

“In my heart, you are always omnipotent. As long as you want, you can turn the world upside down and destroy a huge dynasty in a moment.” Cheng Yu said with some ambiguity.

“The lessons learned from the past are still fresh in my mind. When I face you, I don’t dare to take anything lightly anymore.”

Du Yan understood that his previous actions probably left a deep shadow on Cheng Yu, which made him extremely cautious even when he had the upper hand.

He didn’t care whether the carriage was a prisoner wagon or not. Cheng Yu was in charge of everything anyway, Du Yan’s mentality is to take things as they come.

Referring to the fate of subjugated kings in history, in order to appease the people, Cheng Yu would probably confine him. He was not a narrow-minded person and would not do anything to mistreat the king.

The carriage finally stopped, and the door that had been closed for a long time opened. Du Yan got off the carriage, got on the sedan chair, and went into the palace with Cheng Yu.

After a while, the two finally arrived at their destination. Du Yan looked at the palace in front of him, feeling a little confused.

Judging from the format and location of the palace in front of him, it should be the residence of the emperor. What did Cheng Yu mean by bringing him here?

Cheng Yu didn’t seem to notice what Du Yan was thinking, and led Du Yan inside, with a hint of offering a treasure: “Do you think this place suits your taste?”

Du Yan looked around and found that the decorations were very familiar, all of which were in the style of the Yuan Kingdom. Now that he was in it, Du Yan had the illusion that he had never left the Yuan Kingdom.

“This is your residence. Why do you furnish it like the Yuan royal palace?”

Cheng Yu explained: “I have stayed in the Yuan Kingdom for ten years. Now, it is far longer than the time I spent in Cheng Kingdom. Now, it is the Yuan Kingdom-style furnishing that makes me feel more comfortable.”

Du Yan did not bother with him and asked directly: “Where should I live?”

“It’s here. I’ll take you there.”

Du Yan did not move, his brows slightly wrinkled: “This is where an emperor lives. It is too absurd for me to live in the same palace as you.”

Cheng Yu said: “The capital of Cheng Kingdom has just been moved here, and the imperial palace is not yet fully completed. Apart from this place, there is no other place to settle.”

Du Yan asked: “Then where do your consorts and concubines live?”

Du Yan knew that Cheng Yu had not yet appointed a queen. But a ruler of his age would have side consorts and concubines in the harem even if he had not appointed a queen.

Since there are womenfolk, it is absurd for him to say that this is the only place in the palace where people can live.

Cheng Yu was slightly stunned, then smiled and said: “To be honest, I am in the same situation as you. Neither have I taken a main consort nor a side consort.”

Seeing the displeasure on Du Yan’s face, Cheng Yu explained: “I’m not asking you to live here permanently, but the residence prepared for you has not yet been completed, so I would like to ask you to stay here temporarily for a while, okay?”

Since the host didn’t mind, Du Yan didn’t bother to continue and stayed in the side hall for the time being. But after nightfall, Du Yan lay on the bed and couldn’t fall asleep.

Since their reunion, Cheng Yu’s attitude has made him feel very strange. After the arrow shot in the capital of Yuan Kingdom, Du Yan thought that his past relationship with Cheng Yu was over.

However, after being captured in the capital of Yuan Kingdom, Cheng Yu treated him so well that he didn’t look like he was treating a subjugated king. At that time, although Du Yan sensed something was wrong, he convinced himself that Cheng Yu was broad-minded and would not haggle with a defeated person.

After entering Yicheng, Cheng Yu’s behavior became increasingly strange. Why did he bring the captured king of a fallen country to his own residence and settle him there?

Even though he was slow in emotional matters, Du Yan remembered that many years ago, when Cheng Yu still treated him as a princess, he had expressed his feelings to him.

After Du Yan regained his male identity, he almost completely forgot about this matter. He has always viewed the issue from the perspective of historical conspiracy movies.

Now that he has unloaded the burden, Du Yan feels that his thinking must have gone into a blind spot. If he looks at Cheng Yu’s actions from the perspective of a romance film like Yuan Ning, everything seems to be explainable.

Could it be that Cheng Yu wanted to keep him in captivity as a forbidden delicacy? In history, it was once the case that princesses of a fallen country became concubines in the emperor’s harem.

Du Yan frowned, thinking that if Cheng Yu really planned this, then the matter would be a bit absurd.

No matter what, he could not accept being treated as an exclusive property of Cheng Yu. Now that he could not escape by force, his only way out was to kill the Lord of the Dream and force the Dream to collapse.

The worst scenario is that after making up for the damage done to the Lord of the Dream Land, he will be forcibly taken away from this plane by Xiao Ba and be imprisoned.

However, Du Yan thought about it and felt that if he really had to kill Cheng Yu, he would be reluctant to do so.

Du Yan was so troubled that he tossed and turned all night but could not fall asleep.
