Chapter 93. Are You Jealous?

Shi An had been a coward since he was a child. Because he had no father, he was often bullied by other children in his hometown.

It can be said that when encountering such a situation, Shi An already had a lot of experience in dealing with it. He knew that he couldn’t resist, as resistance would only make the bullies even more aggressive.

At this time, all he needed to do was curl up quietly and wait for the bullying from the other kids to pass. After all, they were just kids and didn’t have much strength. It’s just beating. After a while they would lose interest and go away on their own.

Shi An curled himself up into a ball, protecting his head with his hands. However, just when the fists landed on him a few times, a gap suddenly appeared in the shadows surrounding him.

At first Shi An didn’t dare to look, but when he found that the child who had always been so domineering and had the loudest voice suddenly became silent, he finally couldn’t help but secretly raised his head.

As soon as he looked up, he saw the kid named Lin Hu fell down in a very rude manner, with his head and face covered in dust.

Even under such circumstances, Shi An couldn’t help giggling, because this was the first time he saw the person who bullied him become so embarrassed on the spot.

Then, he saw the kid next door named Du Yan coming out of nowhere, pointing at Lin Hu and saying: “This is my territory.”

Sure enough, the other party didn’t come to save him on purpose. It was said that Du Yan and Lin Hu didn’t get along well and would fight when they met. Just as Shi An was thinking this, he felt an unfriendly gaze falling on him.

Shi An looked in the direction of the gaze and discovered that it was Zhang Jing, the grandson of the old lady who was the landlady of their yard.

Shi An shuddered and subconsciously avoided the other person’s gaze. He actually liked this little Gege named Zhang Jing very much, because he was exactly what he imagined he would be like.

Zhang Jing was always clean and tidy, and his clothes were beautiful and fitted. In the alley, he was a child role model praised by everyone. It was said that before he even started elementary school, he already knew a lot of words, could speak English, do math problems, play chess, and even was learning Taekwondo.

Anyway, this was the type Shi An hoped for, a person whose parents like him and other children never dare to bully him.

When Shi An first moved in, he secretly hoped to become Zhang Jing’s friend. However, he found that when he met Zhang Jing in the yard, he would greet him with a smile. But after leaving the yard, Zhang Jing treated him as if he didn’t exist.

Shi An was a very sensitive child, and he quickly realized that Zhang Jing didn’t want to pay attention to him, so when he was outside, he wouldn’t be so tactless as to approach him.

But when he saw Du Yan always playing around with Zhang Jing without any scruples, he still felt a little jealous.

As for the child named Du Yan, he was the type that Shi An feared the most. Shi An’s mother also knew that her child’s personality made him prone to bullying, so she found out everything about the alley in the first two days after moving in.

Du Yan’s reputation as a little bully was known throughout the alley, so naturally Shi An’s mother classified him as one of the people who needed to be kept away from.

However, the current situation was that Du Yan, whom Shi An didn’t want to get close to, kicked the fierce Lin Hu to dust. And Zhang Jing, whom he admired, looked at him with an impatient and disgusted look.

What on earth is going on? Just when Shi An was stunned and hadn’t figured out what was going on, the situation changed.

Zhang Jing suddenly rushed into the crowd and kicked away a child who was about to attack Du Yan from behind. He then looked at Shi An and said in a bad tone: “What are you doing there like an idiot? Come up and help!”

Shi An was originally a person without much of his own opinion, and he had some inexplicable admiration for Zhang Jing. Hearing his idol say this, he completely forgot the fear in his heart, climbed up from the corner, and joined the fight.

Although Shi An had never fought before, he rushed in full of energy. However, they were all children, so the physical difference was not too big.

After Shi An joined, Du Yan’s group was no longer outnumbered. In addition, Du Yan and Zhang Jing were much stronger than ordinary children in fighting, so it didn’t take much effort for Lin Hu’s gang of kids to run away.

While running, Lin Hu turned back and threatened: “Du Yan, just wait! One day I will beat the shit out of you!”

Du Yan provoke proudly: “If you can’t do it, just call me Grandpa! Oh, no, Lin Hu, you owe me calling Grandpa ten times, why don’t you call me a few times today?”

Lin Hu was so angry that his chubby face turned red, and he could only flee in panic.

A conflict ended just like that, Shi An stood there at a loss.

This was the first time he was able to beat the bully away by himself when he was bullied. In the past, when this happened, either an adult passing by saw the situation and helped him, or his mother rushed to protect her child.

But after being helped by adults, those kids would only bully Shi An even more. He looked at Du Yan and Zhang Jing standing in front of him, and suddenly thought that when facing bullying, he could resist in a different way.

Just as Shi An was about to open his mouth to thank him, he saw Du Yan giving him a wicked smile: “Why did Lin Hu, that brat bully you?”

Shi An was very naive and subconsciously covered his pocket.

Du Yan smiled even more brilliantly and said: “Take it out and let me see it.”

Shi An didn’t want to take out the things in his pocket, but when he saw the look in Zhang Jing’s eyes standing next to Du Yan, he couldn’t help but take out the things in his pocket.

Spreading in the palm of his hand were several beautifully wrapped chocolates. These chocolates were actually given to Shi An’s family by Grandma Li, the landlady. Grandma Li said that her grandson didn’t like sweets and it would be a waste to throw them, so she stuffed them all into the hand of Shi An’s mother.

This was Shi An’s first time eating something so delicious, so he naturally treasured it very much and only ate a few pieces a day. Today, when he was peeling chocolate at the entrance of the alley, he was seen by Lin Hu.

Chocolate is always attractive to children. Shi An was a person who protects his food. Between handing it over and being beaten, he chose the latter, and that’s how it happened.

Du Yan showed a disdainful expression on his face and sneered: “Lin Hu, that brat is as fat as a pig, and he still eats chocolate.”

Shi An saw the expression on Du Yan’s face, and his heart was relieved. It seemed that the other party didn’t like his chocolate.

However, before he could calm down, Du Yan took the chocolate from his palm: “Although I don’t like your things, rules are rules. Protection fee, understand?”

After saying that, Du Yan didn’t care how unbelievable Shi An’s expression was, he just put the chocolate in his pocket and walked into the alley.

“Don’t cause trouble in the future.” Zhang Jing left this sentence and chased after Du Yan.

The entrance to the alley that was bustling just now was suddenly left with Shi An standing alone.

He was completely stunned, so he wondered what had just happened. He would rather be beaten than let go of the chocolate. Then Du Yan jumped out and beat away the people who bullied him, but in the end he still couldn’t keep the chocolate.

Shi An stood stupidly at the entrance of the alley for a long time, unable to explain what he felt. However, compared to the previous times when his things were snatched forcefully, he did not seem to feel as frustrated or unwilling as before.

Du Yan didn’t care what Shi An would think of his actions. He saved Shi An because he really didn’t like Lin Hu’s bullying behavior and he also wanted to prevent Zhang Jing from doing this.

According to Du Yan’s speculation, in the plot of the movie, Shi An’s complete reliance on Zhang Jing comes from the helping hand Zhang Jing extended to him when he was bullied in childhood.

The source of this nightmare comes from Zhang Jing’s guilt. After all, he once truly loved Shi An. In the end, Shi An committed suicide due to depression. Although it was related to his own personality, it was also because of the entanglement between them for more than ten years.

Therefore, in order to reverse Shi An’s tragedy and dispel the source of the nightmare, Du Yan thinks that changing Shi An’s character from the source and stopping all Zhang Jing’s attempts to save Shi An is a good way.

As for taking away Shi An’s chocolate later, it was of course to prevent Shi An from pinning such feelings on himself.

Zhang Jing said: “Take out the chocolate.”

Du Yan looked at him and said frankly: “Yes, you also had a hand in beating up that kid Lin Hu today, so you should be given a few.”

Du Yan generously took out all the chocolates in his trouser pocket and spread them out in his palm, allowing Zhang Jing to choose. But he never expected that Zhang Jing would snatch all the chocolates from his hand.

“Hey! That’s not very kind of you!”

Zhang Jing glanced at him and said: “If you eat too much chocolate, you’ll get cavities. I’ll keep it for you.”

Du Yan was about to chase over and snatch it when he saw Zhang Jing glaring at him: “If you dare to come up and snatch it, I will tell Grandpa Du that you got into a fight again today.”

“How dare you say that to me? You were much more ruthless than me just now!” Du Yan retorted unconvincingly.

“Then go tell my Nainai, I don’t mind.”

“…” It was rare for Du Yan to be speechless after being blocked by Zhang Jing.

Their situations were indeed completely different. If Du Yan fought, he would inevitably be put in solitary confinement for two days, but if Zhang Jing fought, his family’s Grandma Li would only be moved that her grandson has finally become as lively as a normal child.

Du Yan’s eyes flickered and he said with a smile: “What happened to you today? You looked like you had eaten a firecracker? Cut on the hand while trying to steal eggs from the bird nest was an accident. I will be more careful next time?”

Zhang Jing was slightly startled, and his eyebrows wrinkled again: “If you hadn’t mentioned it, I would have forgotten about it…”

“Ah! Nainai is calling me to eat!” Du Yan saw his tone and bolted in hurry.

Zhang Jing held the chocolate in his palm and wanted to throw it into the trash can, but he saw his grandma and Shi An coming over.

Grandma Li had good eyesight and saw the chocolate in Zhang Jing’s hand at a glance: “Huh? Isn’t this the chocolate I gave to Xiao An’s mother a few days ago?”

Zhang Jing froze, and he stuffed the chocolate back to Shi An: “I don’t eat sweets, you take it back.”

Du Yan, who was hiding behind the courtyard gate, witnessed the entire scene. He stroked his hair and whispered: “No way, Zhang Jing snatched the chocolate from me just to give it back to Shi An?”

“Are you jealous?”

Du Yan was full of questions: “Jealous for what? Just two little kids. Your mind is too dirty.”

“Then you are worried about the force majeure of the plot.”

Du Yan said: “That won’t happen. Zhang Jing’s personality is not as persistent as Shi An’s. He probably won’t have any extraordinary thoughts about Shi An in his life.”

Du Yan paused and said with uncertainty: “Maybe he just can’t stand seeing me do bad things. That’s just the little old man’s personality.”
