Chapter 94. Beat Them Up

Ever since he saved Shi An at the entrance of the alley, even though Du Yan snatched Shi An’s chocolate later, he still had an extra little tail.

According to Du Yan’s analysis, Shi An was probably afraid that Lin Hu would take out his anger on him, it’s not because he wanted to be friends with him.

Although Shi An was secretly following Du Yan, whenever Du Yan looked over, he would be scared and hide like a quail.

Du Yan also tried to wave to Shi An to come over, but he only got a look of fear from the other party. After that, he gave up on approaching Shi An. Anyway, Du Yan always called his friends to play together whenever he went out, so having Shi An following behind him didn’t have much impact on him.

Unexpectedly, this impact came a few days later.

Zhang Jing soon discovered that Shi An had been following Du Yan. Du Yan didn’t know what was wrong with him, he even stopped going to the hobby classes and followed Du Yan wholeheartedly.

This caused Du Yan to live in dire straits. Since Zhang Jing stopped attending the hobby classes and stayed by his side every day, Du Yan’s fun was cut in half.

Whenever there was a game that was even slightly dangerous, he would be nagged by little old man Zhang. Du Yan felt that being scolded by Zhang Jing was really unmanly, so he reduced the time he spent hanging out with the bunch of monkeys.

The little overlord of the alley gradually withdrew from the historical stage.

After Zhang Jing joined, Shi An actually began to muster up the courage to approach Du Yan and was no longer afraid of him as before.

Shi An was different from Zhang Jing. Although he was cautious to the point of being timid, he never dared to resist some of Du Yan’s suggestions. So Du Yan proudly announced that from now on, Shi An is his XiaoDi.

Du Yan and Zhang Jing, the two neighbors, had a closer relationship after Shi An joined them, and they were almost inseparable.

In the blink of an eye, another year had passed, and several children were already at the age to go to school.

On the first day of school, Zhang Jing felt that this was the best time in the past year. Because he finally didn’t have to go against his nature and follow Du Yan around all day, but could let Du Yan sit with him in the classroom and study.

Thinking of this scene, Zhang Jing was so excited that he woke up earlier than usual.

After making all the preparations for school, it was still very early.

Zhang Jing thought about Du Yan’s reluctant expression when he went to enroll and decided to go there early to accompany him to school together.

The elementary school they attended was not far from the alley, and it only took about ten to twenty minutes to walk there.

Zhang Jing had always been a precocious person. Except for the day he enrolled, his Nainai took him there. Even though today was the first day of school, Zhang Jing refused to let his Nainai take him to school. He even took the initiative to ask for favors from Grandpa Du and took on the task of taking Du Yan to school.

This was how things were at that time.

Grandpa Du insisted on sending Du Yan to school, not because Du Yan was not independent enough, but because he was worried that his grandson, who was too lively, would not go to school obediently.

All of this had been learned from previous experience. In order to cultivate Du Yan’s temper, Grandpa Du had enrolled him in hobby classes such as chess and calligraphy. However, Du Yan would try his best to skip classes after only one or two days.

It’s fine if he didn’t go to the hobby class, but Grandpa Du can’t stand him skipping school, so even if it means delaying his work, he was determined to personally escort Du Yan to class.

Du Yan thought that being sent to school by his Yeye was too embarrassing for a bully of the alley, so the grandpa and grandson started arguing in the yard. Zhang Jing heard it next door and went to the door directly to promise that he would go to school with Du Yan every day.

So, it was decided that Zhang Jing would come to Du Yan’s house every day to ask him to go to school with him.

As soon as Du Yan walked out of the door, he saw Zhang Jing standing in the yard, looking very high-spirited. He felt inexplicably unhappy and always felt like a prisoner being escorted to the execution ground.

Whenever he got upset, he started to mock Zhang Jing: “As expected of a little old man, you can be so happy just to go to school. What’s so new about that? Ha.”

Zhang Jing had been prepared for this, knowing that Du Yan must be in a bad mood. He smiled and said: “I don’t think going to school is interesting. The things they teach are all things I’ve learned before.”

Du Yan glanced at him and said: “Just brag. If it doesn’t mean anything, why are you so happy?”

After all, Zhang Jing was a little kid, so he blurted out some of the things in his mind: “I’m happy because I can finally get rid of that tail, and I don’t have to worry about you getting into trouble all day long.”

Du Yan was stunned for a moment before realizing that the tail Zhang Jing was talking about must be Shi An.

The school that Du Yan and Zhang Jing were going to attend was a very famous key elementary school in the area, and the enrollment was very tight. Shi An was from another place, and his mother didn’t know anyone, so it was natural that Shi An couldn’t get into that elementary school.

So Shi An could only go to a privately operated elementary school far away from here. He had to take a bus from the alley to the school, and his mother sent him there early in the morning.

Du Yan didn’t know about this plot, because in the movie, Zhang Jing and Shi An were in the same elementary school and the same class, and their fate lasted from elementary school to high school.

Now Shi An was studying in another school. Either Du Yan’s arrival had changed the plot, or some plots not explained in the movie had not yet happened.

That night, Du Yan found out what had happened that led to Shi An’s transfer.

At that time, he had just finished dinner and was chatting with his grandparents in the yard when he suddenly heard a commotion next door.

Then, the cry of Shi An’s mother came from next door.

Du Yan listened for a while with his ears cocked, then he climbed up from the rattan chair and quickly climbed up the wall.

Grandpa Du and Grandma Zhou looked at their grandson’s skilled movements, feeling helpless and amused. They tried to stop him but then gave up. Anyway, they were also a little worried about whether something happened next door.

Du Yan leaned over the wall and looked into the yard next door and saw Shi An’s mother hugging Shi An and crying.

Shi An was covered in dirt and looked like he had rolled around in the mud for several rounds. He looked pitiful.

Shi An’s mother hugged him and cried for a while, then wiped her tears and started to beat Shi An’s butt with the cane, scolding him as she beat him: “Where on earth have you been? Do you know how long I have been looking for you outside? Mama is almost worried to death. Why are you such a troublesome child!”

Shi An just held his school bag strap tightly, lowered his head, and did not make any excuses or dodge. Fortunately, not long after, Shi An’s mother was dragged into the house by Grandma Li, who came out after hearing the noise.

Shi An did not follow, but walked to the stone table in the yard and sat down, twisting his fingers in a daze.

Du Yan turned his eyes and saw Zhang Jing standing at the door, watching, with no intention of going up to comfort Shi An.

Until Grandma Li’s voice came from the room again: “Xiao Jing, go ask Xiao An what happened?”

Zhang Jing then walked up and sat next to Shi An. He asked: “What happened to you?”

Du Yan felt bad when he saw this situation. At this time, when Shi An was at his most vulnerable, he had to intervene and try to nip all signs of trouble in the bud.

He jumped down from the wall and said to his grandparents: “I’m going to go next door to see what’s going on with Shi An.”

At this time of day, every household in the alley was someone everyone knows, and the courtyard doors were not locked unless people were asleep.

This was very convenient for visiting friends at certain times, such as now.

Du Yan pushed open the gate next door, making a loud noise.

Zhang Jing looked up and saw that it was Du Yan. He immediately stopped talking to Shi An, walked over, and asked: “What are you doing here?”

Du Yan rolled his eyes at him and said: “I’m here at Grandma Li’s house. Grandma Li said I can come anytime and anywhere. Don’t you welcome me?”

Zhang Jing was somewhat helpless: “How dare I not welcome you.”

Before he finished speaking, he saw Du Yan pass him by and walk towards Shi An.

Du Yan sat down next to Shi An and asked: “Look at your ugly appearance. You’re being bullied at school, right?”

Shi An knew that it was best to say whatever he wanted to say in front of Du Yan and not to be hesitant or else he would suffer the consequences.

He raised his head and said: “Well, my classmates hid my schoolbag, and it took me some time to find it.”

Du Yan said: “Why didn’t you tell your mother? You got beaten for nothing.”

Shi An bit his lip and chose to tell Du Yan: “I’m afraid she will worry.”

He paused and added: “Please don’t tell my ma. She spent a lot of effort to find this school for me. She works hard enough, and I don’t want her to worry anymore.”

Du Yan patted Shi An on the shoulder and said: “I’m not that little old man Zhang Jing. I won’t tattletale.”

Zhang Jing just sat down and heard this and secretly kicked Du Yan under the table. Du Yan looked at him, bared his teeth, and made a face at him.

Shi An didn’t notice the two people’s actions. After he finished speaking, he lowered his head and looked at his fingers again.

Du Yan asked again: “Those little devils have nothing better to do when they are full, beat them up, and they’ll behave.”

Shi An looked at Du Yan and opened his mouth to say something, but nothing came out.

Du Yan was not stupid, he knew what Shi An wanted to say. Shi An’s fighting skills were really not good. He could fight when he was instructed by him, but he would definitely be a coward when he was alone.

He thought for a moment, then slammed the table with a sense of loyalty: “Dare to bully my XiaoDi? Tomorrow after school, you wait for me at school, and I will help you vent your anger.”

Zhang Jing sat aside and sighed silently. He knew that he couldn’t persuade Du Yan in this situation, so he could only glare at Shi An unhappily.

It’s all this troublemaker’s fault!
