Chapter 99. It Is All Your Fault
Arc 4 : Realistc World Movie Nightmare.
Du Yan pushed the bicycle and stood under a tree as if waiting for someone.
Zhang Jing and Shi An were standing in the perfect position, where they would not be seen by Du Yan, but could keep a close eye on the developments there. That was why the two of them chose this place at the same time, leading to the current embarrassing situation.
Fortunately, someone came over there soon.
Zhang Jing no longer had time to feel embarrassed but frowned as he looked at the girl walking towards Du Yan. He recognized the pretty girl at a glance, and it was indeed Zhao Yuqi, a junior high school student.
Zhang Jing quickly dug out the relationship between Du Yan and Zhao Yuqi from his memory. They met at an inter-school basketball game, but they had no contact after the game. Why did they suddenly get together?
Zhang Jing began to think back to Du Yan’s previous behavior, but he couldn’t find anything wrong. In short, he didn’t look like a young man with amorous feelings at all and was no different from the naughty kid in the past.
“Follow me.” Shi An suddenly pulled Zhang Jing and whispered.
Zhang Jing came back to his senses and saw that the two people in front of him had already started to walk away.
He and Shi An reached a strange tacit understanding at this time, following Du Yan at a very suitable distance. They would not lose him, nor would they be discovered by the other party.
Not long after walking, Zhang Jing felt something was wrong because Du Yan was pushing the bicycle the whole time and had no intention of using the bicycle to carry people.
Although Du Yan is usually quite conceited, when he went to buy a bicycle in junior high school, he unexpectedly chose the kind that can carry others behind.
At that time, Zhang Jing saw that Du Yan had made the same choice as himself, and they both said at the same time: “If your bicycle breaks down one day, I can just give you a ride.”
However, the quality of this bicycle was very good, so there had never been a need to carry others.
Zhang Jing just thought of this when he saw the two people in front of him stopped and seemed to be talking about something. But the distance was too far, and he couldn’t hear the content clearly.
Shi An lowered his voice and said to Zhang Jing: “The store where my mama works is right in front. I am very familiar with this place. Just go around from the back.”
Shi An pointed to a corner and said: “It’s blocked there, so it can’t be found. Do you want to go over there?”
Zhang Jing hesitated for a moment, and in his heart, he began to condemn himself for his sneaky behavior, which was too shameful.
Just when he was about to refuse, Zhang Jing saw Zhao Yuqi pointing at the back seat of the bicycle and saying something shyly.
“Okay.” Zhang Jing nodded decisively in agreement.
Shi An led Zhang Jing around from the back door. The two found a good position and were about to eavesdrop when they heard Du Yan say: “No, I don’t think I can carry you given your weight.”
“……”
Zhang Jing never expected to hear such a sentence. He and Shi An looked at each other with mixed feelings, and they felt more and more that Du Yan’s puppy love was a little unreliable.
The two people continued to move forward, and Zhang Jing and Shi An hid for a while before preparing to catch up.
Unexpectedly, Shi An had only walked a few steps when he was spotted by his mother.
“Shi An, why are you here?” Tan Ayi said: “It just so happens that I am too busy right now, so you can come and give me a hand.”
Shi An had no choice but to quit the tailing plan halfway and went to the store to help his mama, leaving Zhang Jing to follow Du Yan.
There were no more accidents on the way. Du Yan and Zhao Yuqi did not have any intimate behavior at all. They just chatted and laughed all the way home like ordinary friends.
Du Yan only waved his hand when he sent Zhao Yuqi to her doorstep. The two of them did not even hold hands during the whole process.
Zhang Jing followed Du Yan, watching the boy in front of him walk towards his home, and he couldn’t tell what he felt in his heart.
When he saw that Du Yan and Zhao Yuqi didn’t have any intimate actions, the terrible uneasiness in his heart dissipated a lot, but he thought of something further.
One day, Du Yan will have a girlfriend. He will hold a girl’s hand, walk up to him, and introduce her to him intimately, saying, Zhang Jing, this is my girlfriend. In the future, he will even marry a woman, have children, and build a family, and they will become the most important person in each other’s life.
And he, Zhang Jing, is just Du Yan’s best friend. Their worlds will become farther and farther apart, and there will be more and more things happening between them.
This was the first time that young Zhang Jing felt a sense of crisis about growing up. In the past, he had always been eager to grow up because only by growing up could he take full control of his life.
Zhang Jing was so worried that he didn’t even notice he had reached the door of his home.
He was still immersed in his own thoughts when he was suddenly grabbed by someone. Zhang Jing suddenly came back to his senses and found that the person in front of him was Du Yan.
Du Yan’s face did not look good. He looked at Zhang Jing and said: “What on earth do you want to do by following me all the way?”
Zhang Jing subconsciously wanted to deny: “No…”
Du Yan said directly: “I saw you a long time ago, but I just didn’t want to expose you. We have been friends for so many years, there is no need to talk about these trivialities.”
Zhang Jing sighed and did not deny it: “I am just worried that you will fall in love too early.”
Du Yan was probably angry about Zhang Jing’s stalking and said something without thinking: “So what if I’m in love?”
Zhang Jing was stunned. After hearing Du Yan’s words that sounded like an admission, his mind seemed to be swept by a strong wind, blowing everything to pieces. He was completely unable to think.
Zhang Jing spoke completely on instinct, subconsciously repeating the conversation from a year ago: “It will affect your studies. You also know that high school admissions are based on high school entrance exam results…”
Du Yan interrupted Zhang Jing and said: “I’ve said that I’m not a child anymore, and my self-control is not as bad as you think. If my falling in love early doesn’t affect my studies, will you stop interfering?”
Zhang Jing now had no ability to think at all. He was stumped by Du Yan’s question and remained silent without saying anything.
“Your behavior today makes me very unhappy.”
Du Yan glanced at Zhang Jing, said this, and then turned and walked into the yard.
This pair of childhood best friends actually started a cold war for a while because of this incident.
Even a few days ago, when Du Yan asked to go alone after school, he still went to school with Zhang Jing and Shi An. However, the next day after this incident, when Zhang Jing went to Du Yan’s house to call him, he was told that Du Yan had already left.
Zhang Jing stood at the door of Du Yan’s house, knowing that this time, the other party was probably really angry. After confirming that Du Yan was angry, Zhang Jing did not go to Du Yan again.
Because he felt that if he went to Du Yan before he could reflect on himself and express a sincere apology, the other party would probably only get angrier.
Moreover, Zhang Jing also felt that he had not yet fully accepted the fact that Du Yan was in an early relationship. If he went to find Du Yan rashly, the final result would only be a bad ending.
This reflection took several days.
Zhang Jing finally reluctantly accepted the fact that Du Yan might be in love. No matter what he thought in his heart, if he wanted to continue his friendship with Du Yan, he had to accept it.
On this basis, Zhang Jing reflected carefully and felt that he had indeed gone too far.
Even if he really wanted to know whether Du Yan was in love, he shouldn’t have followed him secretly, but should have had a good talk with Du Yan.
He believed that he and Du Yan had been friends for so many years and that the other party would definitely find a time to tell him, but he handled it in the worst way possible.
So it was natural for Du Yan to be angry. He was the one who was wrong, not the other party.
Zhang Jing thought about it and decided to write down all his thoughts on a piece of paper. He was worried that Du Yan would not want to see him or talk to him properly, so he could only communicate in this way.
***
Du Yan squatted in the yard, fiddling with the bicycle he rode to school.
Grandpa Du in the room saw this and asked loudly: “Xiao Yan? Is your bicycle broken down? Do you need Yeye’s help?”
“No need, no need.” Du Yan refused repeatedly: “I just put some new stickers on the bicycle to change its appearance.”
He didn’t dare let his Yeye see what he was doing because Du Yan wasn’t repairing the bicycle at all. The quality of his bicycle was very good, and he had ridden it for more than a year without any problems.
However, Du Yan was now worried about the bicycle not having any problems and was trying to find some minor problems with it.
Du Yan is not crazy, he does this to rebuild the bridge of friendship.
In fact, after having a quarrel with Zhang Jing that day, Du Yan regretted it as soon as he entered the house.
He is not usually like this, but in the dream world, his personality traits and bloodline power are so strong that Du Yan is now just a junior high school boy in his teens.
So when he found out that he was being followed by Zhang Jing, he felt a surge of self-esteem that belonged to a junior high school boy, and even a sense of guilt that came from being caught doing something wrong.
A mixture of emotions made Du Yan rebuked Zhang Jing without thinking. The next day, he even went to school without waiting for Zhang Jing because of his guilty conscience and the embarrassment after the quarrel.
Unexpectedly, Zhang Jing never came to see him again, and the two of them fell into a strange cold war.
After Du Yan calmed down completely, he still couldn’t bring himself to admit his mistake and ask for peace with Zhang Jing, so he could only think of a roundabout way to ease the relationship between them.
Du Yan’s method was to break his own bicycle so that he could justifiably ask Zhang Jing to take him to school the next day. After all, they had agreed when they bought the bicycles that whoever’s bicycle broke down, the other would be responsible for taking him to school.
Du Yan thought for a while, then decisively took a saw from his Yeye’s toolbox and sat there to start grinding the bicycle chain.
Just when he had finally broken the chain in half with great effort, a paper airplane suddenly fell and landed right at his feet.
Du Yan picked up the paper airplane and found familiar handwriting on it. He subconsciously looked towards the wall but saw no one.
Du Yan lowered his head, pouted and cursed: “What a weird little old man.”
After saying this, he couldn’t help but smile softly, and then he opened the paper airplane.
The more he read, the more he couldn’t hide the smile on his face. After reading the last line of words, Du Yan’s eyes were already curved with laughter.
He raised his head and shouted: “Zhang Xiao Jing, come out!”
As soon as he finished speaking, Zhang Jing appeared from the other side of the wall. He looked at Du Yan with a somewhat uneasy look on his face.
Du Yan raised the letter in his hand and said: “I have to frame this carefully and hang it above the bed for me to look at every day. I don’t know how many promises I have made in front of you over the years, but this is the first time you have written a letter of repentance.”
Zhang Jing looked at Du Yan’s smug expression, touched his nose, and looked a little embarrassed, but still said: “If you want to keep it, keep it. I don’t care.”
Du Yan looked at Zhang Jing and said with a smile: “Okay. When you become a social elite and a successful person in the future, I will expose your dark history.”
Zhang Jing saw Du Yan’s usual smiling face and finally couldn’t help but smile.
The two of them just looked at each other and smiled foolishly, one of them leaning on the wall and the other standing in the yard.
The moonlight was just right, the wind was gentle, and the only sound they could hear was the humming of opera singing coming from Grandpa Du’s radio in the house.
After an unknown amount of time, Grandpa Du’s voice came from the room: “Xiao Yan, are you done?”
Du Yan came back to his senses: “Ah, okay, I’ll come in right away.”
Zhang Jing asked with some trepidation: “Tomorrow morning, may I ask you to go to school together?”
Du Yan kicked his bicycle and replied: “Not only do you have to call me to go to school, you also have to take me to school. I guess I won’t be able to ride this thing tomorrow.”
“What happened to your bicycle?” Zhang Jing asked.
Du Yan glared at him in displeasure: “What happened! It’s all your fault!”
“Hmm?” Zhang Jing looked confused, but he still said subconsciously: “I’m sorry. It’s my fault. I’ll take you to school tomorrow.”
