Chapter 115. The Last Hero on Earth

Although his assistant still had the same expression as before, Shao Lingheng could sense that this assistant named Du Yan was not very happy, and the anger was directed at him.

Logically speaking, as a boss being targeted by his assistant, he should either not care or feel somewhat dissatisfied.

Hereafter, Shao Lingheng’s first reaction was to reflect on himself. He was wondering what he had done to offend the other party and whether he should apologize properly.

Before Shao Lingheng could figure out what was going on, Du Yan leaned over to pour him some tea. He was very sharp-eyed and saw a faint red mark on the other person’s collarbone.

Shao Lingheng froze. Seeing Du Yan pouring the tea and about to leave, he grabbed Du Yan’s arm.

Du Yan was stunned to see Shao Lingheng frowning and looking unhappy. Although Du Yan felt that Shao Lingheng had snatched the food from his mouth and was somewhat dissatisfied, the other party was his boss after all and had been supplying him with food for a long time, so he asked softly.

“Shao Ge, what’s wrong?”

Shao Lingheng’s question was somewhat irrelevant: “Xiao Du, you didn’t sleep in your room last night?”

Du Yan was startled, thinking that Shao Lingheng remembered what happened in the morning. Fortunately, he was always very calm, and his facial expression did not change.

He replied: “Shao Ge, I slept in my room last night. Otherwise, how could I rush here so early? Is there something wrong?”

Shao Lingheng stared at Du Yan’s neck with an ugly look on his face. He pondered for a moment and said: “Most of the people staying in this hotel are crew members. We have also signed a confidentiality agreement with the crew. Xiao Du, you should be careful and don’t bring in irrelevant people.”

It seemed that what the other party was talking about was not what happened this morning. Du Yan felt relieved, but he was a little confused and asked: “Shao Ge, did you misunderstand something? I didn’t bring anyone in.”

The strange conversation between the two made Qian Xing, who was standing by, feel that something was wrong. He glanced at Shao Lingheng and found that his eyes were fixed on Du Yan’s neck.

Qian Xing looked over carefully and saw a faint red mark under Du Yan’s T-shirt, which looked like hickey

Qian Xing suddenly realized that it was no wonder that Shao Lingheng suddenly said such a thing. It turned out that he found out that Du Yan brought his girlfriend to the hotel.

He never expected that this young Du Yan was so brave. But what surprised Qian Xing even more was his cousin’s reaction because it was a blatant double standard.

Once, Qian Xing accompanied Shao Lingheng to a remote place to film a movie. Coincidentally, his girlfriend was also on a business trip in that city, so he invited his girlfriend to a hotel to spend the night together.

As a result, when Shao Lingheng found out the next day, he directly scolded Qian Xing. He said that if he wanted to meet his girlfriend, he should go to another hotel and should not bring her to the work related hotel. However, the same thing happened to Du Yan now. He just casually gave a reminder, and it was over.

Although Qian Xing was a little angry, he was not a stingy person. Seeing that Du Yan hadn’t figured out what was going on, he patted Du Yan and then tapped his neck to indicate.

“Young people should be careful when planting strawberries.”

Seeing this, Du Yan finally realized that Shao Lingheng was talking about the hickey.

As soon as he understood, he felt a surge of anger rising to his head. You don’t know which bastard left this hickey! It’s fine if you just steal food, but now you’re actually trying to use this hickey to cause trouble?

Perhaps Xiao Ba sensed Du Yan’s anger and reminded him: “Well, Shao Lingheng doesn’t remember this…”

Du Yan heard the reminder and thought that Shao Lingheng really didn’t know anything, so it was normal for him to have such thoughts.

So he could only suppress his dissatisfaction and anger and explained: “Shao Ge, Qian Ge, you misunderstood. I live on a low floor, and last night, a bug seemed to have flown in from somewhere. This is a bug bite. If you don’t believe me, you can go to the front desk to ask. I didn’t go out, and I didn’t bring anyone in.”

Shao Lingheng was a little unhappy at first, but when he saw Du Yan trying to suppress his anger and explain, he became a little flustered. He nodded directly: “Sorry, I misunderstood, don’t be angry.”

Du Yan thought that the matter would just pass, but when the three of them went down to the hotel lobby, Shao Lingheng still walked towards the front desk.

Du Yan thought he was really going to verify whether he had brought anyone back, so he followed him helplessly. Unexpectedly, he heard Shao Lingheng ask a question as soon as he walked over.

“Are there any rooms available on the 16th floor?”

The rooms for the entire crew were arranged uniformly by the crew. As Shao Lingheng’s personal assistant, Du Yan could only live in an ordinary standard room. Being able to have his own room was already a special treatment for Shao Lingheng’s assistant.

Shao Lingheng lived in a suite on the 16th floor, which was less crowded and quiet.

Unexpectedly, he just found a reason to cover up the problem, but Shao Lingheng actually remembered it and even came to book a room in his name.

Du Yan watched the front desk lady see Shao Lingheng coming in person to book a room with sparkling eyes, and felt that his boss was really a good person.

The energy being taken away this morning was an unintentional mistake on Shao Lingheng’s part, so there was no need for him to worry too much about it.

When Shao Lingheng turned around with the room card, he found that Du Yan’s dissatisfaction with him seemed to have disappeared. He didn’t show it on his face, but deep down, he felt that changing Du Yan’s room was the right thing to do.

It would be best if the assistant is happy.

***

A day passed, and perhaps because the energy released from the last nightmare was absorbed by Shao Lingheng himself, the intervals between nightmares, this time, became shorter.

After Du Yan moved in next door to Shao Lingheng, he became more sensitive to nightmares. He could smell the alluring aroma while still in the room.

The smell was amazing. It’s not just the aroma of food. This wonderful smell even formed a complete picture in front of Du Yan’s eyes.

In the deserted desert, a lone knight stayed by the campfire, roasting a lamb leg bought from a herdsman, with a pot of wine at hand. He looked at the moon in the distance, listened to the wolf howling in his ears, and looked at his hometown in the distance.

The greasy barbecue sizzles under the licking of the flames, and the overbearing aroma of barbecue permeates every pore, satisfying but also making people feel desolate and lonely in their hearts.

Du Yan originally thought that this might be a nightmare from a martial arts movie.

Unexpectedly, after falling asleep, Du Yan saw an abandoned concrete forest.

This was a city, a former city. Surrounded by skyscrapers, the sky had become a tiny gap.

The sky was gray and tinged with a light, earthy yellow. In this grayness, Du Yan saw a round object emitting a faint light.

Is that the sun? The entire sky seemed to be shrouded in smoke and dust, and the outline of the sun was barely visible.

The road was full of rusty and dilapidated cars. There were only a few broken pieces of glass left in the roadside shops. The whole city was so empty that there hadn’t been any human beings around. It was so desolate that it was a little scary.

At this moment, a very tall and strong figure came from a distance. He was wearing a camouflage uniform, but on his back was a huge sword that was totally incompatible with the modern technological society.

Seeing the unique appearance of the person, Du Yan finally knew which movie this person was from.

《The Last Hero on Earth》.

The name of this movie sounds strange. Heroes usually only appear in ancient martial arts movies, and it doesn’t fit in with the Earth at the beginning.

This was a movie set in a wasteland world. World War III broke out, the world was destroyed by nuclear weapons, and nuclear radiation spread to every corner of the planet.

Before the nuclear war broke out, many residents on Earth hid in underground shelters, freezing themselves and waiting for the peak of radiation to pass.

Two hundred years later, these frozen survivors woke up one after another. However, some shelters were still exposed to radiation for some reason.

A small number of these humans survived, but their genes changed due to radiation. They developed various superpowers, and their lifespans became longer, but they lost the ability to reproduce. They are called Infected.

The other part of the human race that was not irradiated had not changed much from the human race before the nuclear war. They were physically weak but retained the ability to reproduce. They are called Pure Ones.

A hundred years later, the social order of human beings on Earth has been almost completely reorganized.

The weak Pure Ones were not kept captive or eliminated by the Infected because they were numerous and could do things that the Infected could not do, namely, cultivate plants.

All animals and plants in the world have been mutated by radiation. Eating these animals and plants as food will only cause the radiation levels to become increasingly severe. When the limit is reached, they will mutate again.

Infected had seen the consequences of another mutation, which was becoming an irrational monster-like existence.

Only Pure Ones could use soilless cultivation technology to grow plants that were not irradiated. Scientists had extracted anti-radiation drugs from these plants that could reduce radiation levels.

Thus, the order of human society was established. Infected were responsible for cleaning up the city, and Pure Ones were responsible for transforming their homes.

In order to ensure that the transformed homeland was not contaminated by radiation again, the infected were not allowed to enter the homeland. They could only live around the homeland and rely on resources collected from abandoned cities in exchange for anti-radiation drugs.

Pure Ones could also leave their homes, but they needed to be wrapped in radiation-proof suits, and the animals and insects that had been irradiated were not something Pure Ones could fight against. Therefore, Pure Ones would never leave their homes most of the time.

Shen Heng, who was walking from a distance, was the protagonist of the movie, the most powerful infected person in the world. The level of radiation he was exposed to was so high that even other infected people did not dare to stay with him for too long, for fear that they would be affected and their radiation levels would be increased.

For a hundred years, Shen Heng has cleaned up city after city on his own. He is the most powerful and loneliest person.

The whole movie is filled with this feeling of loneliness, as Shen Heng cleans up the cities occupied by mutant animals alone. Infected people avoided him, Pure Ones were afraid of him, and Shen Heng was always alone.

Infected people died of old age one by one, and finally, only Shen Heng was left.

Just as Pure Ones were becoming more powerful, they began to try to deal with the only Infected person because they were jealous of his unfathomable power.

Shen Heng finally cleared the last city. He sat on the top of the tallest building in the city, looked at the clear outline of the sun in front of him, and closed his eyes quietly.
