Chapter 128. My Child

In the few minutes that Du Yan was thinking, Shen Heng had already won the battle with the mutant and stepped on the mutant to the ground.

The mutant was extremely feral, and even though it was subdued and almost unable to move, it kept baring its teeth at Shen Heng and roaring threateningly.

At this moment, a hand suddenly grabbed Du Yan’s neck from behind, completely controlling him.

Shen Heng looked up, his expression became extremely terrifying in an instant, and his eyes were filled with murderous intent. A man like him who has experienced many battles and has unfathomable strength is indeed extremely terrifying when he has murderous intent.

At least Du Yan felt it clearly. When Shen Heng looked at him with murderous intent, the man holding him stiffened unconsciously for a moment.

“Old Bao, you are courting death.” Shen Heng said.

Old Bao said: “Boss Shen, I have no ill intentions. Please let him go.”

Shen Heng’s action was extremely decisive. He raised his toes and kicked the mutant creature he was stepping on towards Old Bao.

Seeing this, Old Bao pushed Du Yan into the equipment room and rushed in that direction.

Infected were already very powerful, and Old Bao had no intention of controlling his strength in a hurry, so Du Yan was almost thrown out by him. Fortunately, Shen Heng reacted quickly and rushed over to catch Du Yan.

“How are you?” Shen Heng lowered his head to look at Du Yan’s neck, which had been strangled.

Du Yan shook his head: “It’s okay, hurry up and chase.”

Shen Heng was about to pick up Du Yan and chase them, but the door of the equipment room slammed shut.

The room was plunged into complete darkness.

Du Yan was a little confused and was looking around when he felt someone patting his back.

“They probably cut off the power supply. The design of the underground shelter power supply is a double protection system. When the main power supply is cut off, all safety doors will temporarily shut, and the secondary power supply will be activated to ensure that there is no power outage in the hibernation room. It also prevents someone from destroying the power supply again.”

“If the power is cut off, they can’t leave by elevator, right?” Du Yan asked: “What should we do now? Break in by force?”

“Underground shelters have security systems. If I force the door open, I’m afraid of triggering poison gas or something like that. I’m not scared, but you definitely can’t handle it. Let’s take a look at the situation first.”

After Shen Heng finished speaking, he left Du Yan. Not long after, the lights in the room came on again.

“Fortunately, this is the equipment room, so there must be a backup power supply.”

Although the two of them can not get out for now, the overall layout of the shelter should be stored in this equipment room. After confirming the type of protection system, Shen Heng will be able to force a breakthrough.

Shen Heng was not very familiar with these electronic devices, so he could only sit aside and watch Du Yan fumble around.

After Du Yan operated the central control panel in the equipment room, he suddenly said: “I found something good.”

He pressed his finger lightly, and the huge screen in front of him lit up. Du Yan then operated it again, and the screen was suddenly divided into several small screens. Each small screen seemed to be a place in the underground shelter.

Shen Heng asked: “Is this a surveillance system?”

“Yeah.” Du Yan nodded: “The equipment in this shelter is well preserved. The monitoring system is still usable, and it’s a night vision system with good effect.”

Shen Heng casually scanned and found Old Bao’s figure on one of the small screens. He raised his hand and pointed: “Over there.”

Du Yan understood and directly enlarged the small screen.

The situation on Old Bao’s side was very strange. The mutant creature that attacked everyone it saw actually seemed to be following Old Bao obediently. The two of them walked along the passage in a certain direction.

Du Yan controlled the surveillance system all the way, switching the surveillance camera to keep up with Old Bao. This underground shelter was unexpectedly larger than usual. In addition to the hibernation room outside, the passage inside was very deep.

The further Old Bao walked inside, the more familiar the environment looked to Du Yan until Old Bao opened a door. When Du Yan switched the camera to the room, he was stunned.

Behind the door was a huge laboratory. The laboratory was filled with huge glass cylinders, which were filled with liquid, but inside were empty.

Seeing this, Shen Heng was a little puzzled: “What is this place? This is the first time I have seen such a room in an underground shelter.”

Du Yan laughed softly and said: “Laboratory. It seems that this shelter was built for this laboratory.”

Shen Heng asked again: “Laboratory? Researching what?”

Du Yan opened his mouth, then shook his head: “I don’t know. Alas, hundreds of years have passed. Even if there are any research results, they are probably almost rotten. Why do you care about this? You should just keep an eye on Old Bao.”

The laboratory was very large, with several small rooms inside. Du Yan and Shen Heng were focused on these strange glass cylinders, and for a moment, they lost sight of Old Bao.

Fortunately, there were more surveillance cameras in the laboratory than outside, and Du Yan found Old Bao’s whereabouts after searching for a while.

Unexpectedly, Old Bao and the mutant were actually staying in the cold storage. Old Bao stood at the door, looking at the corner helplessly.

Du Yan zoomed in with the camera, and when he saw the corner clearly, he was slightly startled, took a step back, and bumped into Shen Heng’s chest.

Shen Heng reached out and supported him: “Don’t be afraid.”

Du Yan still said stubbornly: “I’m not scared, I just wasn’t prepared for a moment and got scared. It’s just a pile of corpses, what’s there to be afraid of.”

It turned out that in that corner, there were piles of female corpses. Judging from their clothes and appearance, they should be Pure Ones, who disappeared from the 135th tribal settlement during this period.

The mutant’s movements were even more bloody and terrifying. It buried its head in the necks of the corpses and gnawed at them. Then, its movements, which had been somewhat slow due to the injury from Shen Heng, became agile again.

Old Bao walked over and touched the mutant’s head. The monitoring equipment could not record any sound, but he could vaguely tell from his mouth shape that he seemed to have said something.

“My child.”

The mutant creature, or rather the mutant child, shook off Old Bao’s hand and stood up. Then he walked in another direction. Du Yan switched the camera again and followed.

In another corner, there was still a corpse, but this corpse was very well preserved, and the clothes do not look like clothes from this period, but more like pre-war clothes.

When Du Yan saw this, he was moved and turned back to ask Shen Heng: “You have good eyesight. Is the face of this corpse the same as the photo posted on the empty cryopod?”

Shen Heng looked at it carefully for a moment, then nodded and said: “Yes.”

Du Yan watched the mutant rub the corpse’s face with dependence, then turned back to look at Old Bao. Old Bao understood and walked up to hug the mutant.

“What a deep love between father and son. It seems that this mutant should be the child of Old Bao and Pure One who hid in this underground shelter.” Du Yan said: “Unfortunately, after genes of Infected mutate, even if they can give birth to children due to other factors, there are still problems.”

Shen Heng did not say anything but stared at the surveillance screen, his thoughts unknown.

Du Yan didn’t get an answer, so he turned around and saw Shen Heng’s thoughtful and somewhat melancholy expression.

Du Yan asked: “What? Are you moved by the deep love between father and son?”

Shen Heng nodded, then shook his head: “I just remembered some things about the world before the war.”

Shen Heng casually talked about the world before the war, which was a better world where the relationship between humans was closer. He recalled for a moment and sighed again.

“The world today is more like a dark forest, where the strong prey on the weak. What you see now is just the tip of the iceberg. Humans today are becoming more and more like wild animals, struggling to survive…”

Du Yan did not comfort him. As a Pure One born in Homeland after the war, he had never seen the world before the war, so naturally, he could not empathize with him.

He was silent for a moment and then said: “Do you want to change the fate of Old Bao’s child?”

Du Yan’s tone became a little strange. He usually spoke in a clear and cheerful voice like a young boy who was not familiar with the world. But he lowered his voice and prolonged his tone just now, sounding like a demon from hell holding a tempting fruit to tempt humans.

Shen Heng was slightly stunned and looked over: “You, what do you mean?”

Du Yan walked over and stopped very close to Shen Heng. He gently pushed Shen Heng’s chest with very little force.

Shen Heng seemed to be bewildered by Du Yan’s eyes and sat down by force. Du Yan sat astride Shen Heng’s legs, held his neck, and pressed his forehead against his, and their eyes met, only a few fingers apart from each other.

“Shen Heng, I suddenly have a very good suggestion.”

Shen Heng’s Adam’s apple moved up and down, and his jawline was tense.

“I was thinking, I’m not worried about radiation, so can my blood serum help that child to purify the radiation in his body? Maybe he can become a normal person, do you want to try it?” Du Yan looked at Shen Heng, his eyes full of temptation.

“……”

Just as Du Yan was waiting for Shen Heng’s answer, his eyes suddenly went dark. Du Yan blinked and felt the roughness covering his face.

It turned out that Shen Heng actually raised his hand to cover his eyes. Du Yan subconsciously raised his hand to pull Shen Heng’s hand but found that the other party was very firm. He tried his best, but his palm still did not move.

“Don’t look at me like that. When you look at me like that, I want to agree to whatever you say.” Shen Heng’s voice rang out, low and a little hoarse: “But this time, I can’t agree with you.”

Du Yan was stunned, and the strength in his hands loosened.

“If the secret of you not worrying about radiation leaked, I can’t imagine what the consequences will be.” Shen Heng paused for a moment: “Since it is a secret, let it remain a secret.”

“You were obviously a little soft-hearted just now.”

Shen Heng said: “I just suddenly thought of my father, not because of Old Bao’s matter. Even if I really feel soft-hearted one day, it is not worth exchanging your secret, absolutely not.”

Du Yan said: “I understand, let go.”

Shen Heng did as he was told, and then he saw Du Yan’s eyes crooked with laughter. The somewhat dangerous boy had disappeared.

“Then you must remember what you said today and the choice you made today. Don’t forget it.”

“Ok.”
