Chapter 104. Misunderstanding

TN-: 3 chapters today!!!

“Why did Du Yan leave first?” Shi An’s confused voice came over.

“He said he would go to the cafeteria to save a seat for us.” Zhang Jing came to his senses, got out of bed, and hurried into the bathroom without even looking back in Shi An’s direction.

As soon as he entered the bathroom, he lowered his head and turned on the faucet, scooped up the cold water with both hands, and splashed it on his face. Zhang Jing washed his face with cold water several times, and then he felt that the chaotic feeling in his mind gradually faded away.

Only then did he have time to look up at himself in the mirror. His eyes were red, and his face looked a little flustered.

In addition, he found a little black smudge under his eyes. Could it be that I had dark circles under my eyes because I tossed and turned last night and didn’t sleep well?

Zhang Jing didn’t care and pulled the towel aside to wash his face again. After he felt that there was nothing abnormal about his appearance, he walked out the door.

When Zhang Jing and Shi An arrived at the cafeteria, Du Yan had already bought breakfast and found a seat near the door. When he saw Zhang Jing and Shi An coming in, he immediately stood up and waved his hand to indicate his position.

When Zhang Jing sat down, Du Yan felt a little guilty.

Because he knew that Zhang Jing was actually quite image-conscious and clean, but he painted the other person’s face this morning.

Although that kind of ink can be washed clean by rubbing it with water, his ridiculous face must have been seen by Shi An, and who knows if Zhang Jing will be angry out of shame.

Zhang Jing rarely gets angry, and when he does, he won’t show it very obviously. He usually just sulks, and people who aren’t familiar with him can’t even tell. But if he really gets angry, it’s still pretty troublesome.

Du Yan felt that Zhang Jing must be angry because the little old man didn’t mention anything about what happened in the morning, but just ate breakfast.

The more Du Yan thought about it, the more guilty he felt. He didn’t dare to look Zhang Jing in the eye. He only dared to glance secretly at Zhang Jing from the corner of his eyes. Every time Zhang Jing looked over, he quickly looked away. In short, his eyes were evasive, and he didn’t dare to look Zhang Jing in the eye at all.

In short, the atmosphere during the breakfast was very strange. Zhang Jing was not a talkative person, Shi An was in a daze, and Du Yan, who was the most active, did not dare to speak because of his guilty conscience.

The three of them sat together and looked more unfamiliar than the new classmates they had just met.

After finishing his meal and walking out of the cafeteria, Du Yan felt that he couldn’t go on like this, and he had to test what kind of angry state Zhang Jing was in. So he pulled Shi An, and the two of them fell a few steps behind.

Du Yan asked in a low voice: “When you woke up this morning, did you feel something strange about Zhang Jing?”

Shi An thought about it carefully and said: “When I got up, he went to the bathroom to wash up. When he came out, there was nothing wrong with him. He looked serious as usual.”

Du Yan said: “Didn’t he kick my bed, hammer my quilt or anything like that?”

Shi An looked at Du Yan in astonishment and said: “Even if the sun rises from the west, Zhang Jing would not have such conduct!”

Perhaps because Shi An was too surprised, his voice was a little louder. Zhang Jing turned around and asked: “What kind of conduct would I not have? What are you two saying about me?”

Du Yan immediately put on a smile, walked up to Zhang Jing, and put his arm around his shoulders: “Nothing, nothing. Just means that you are handsome. Even when you just wake up in the morning, your face is radiant. Even if you have messy hair after sleeping, you are still handsome.”

Du Yan had said these flattering words more than once or twice before. For some reason, Zhang Jing felt his ears getting hot this time. He turned his head and said awkwardly: “Don’t talk nonsense.”

***

Du Yan has been very distressed recently because he offended Zhang Jing.

To be honest, after knowing Zhang Jing for so many years, Zhang Jing rarely gets angry with Du Yan. Even if he gets angry, as long as Du Yan acts a little naughty, Zhang Jing will quickly calm down, and the two will be as good friends as before.

However, Zhang Jing’s anger this time was a little unusual. He did not ignore Du Yan, but Du Yan felt that Zhang Jing’s attitude was a little different.

Specifically, Du Yan felt that Zhang Jing seemed to be somewhat distant from him. Things started to change after Du Yan drew something on Zhang Jing’s face that day. For a period of time afterward, Zhang Jing was acting strangely.

After breakfast that day, Du Yan saw Zhang Jing smiling and thought the matter was over. But that night, Zhang Jing suddenly insisted on changing the direction of their sleep, saying that the sound of their breathing would disturb each other if they slept head to head.

So the two of them went from sleeping head to head to sleeping feet to feet, and Zhang Jing canceled their bedtime talk on the grounds that it would affect their studies the next day.

Du Yan thought that maybe it was because of the messy drawing that morning that Zhang Jing got so angry. He even found a time to sincerely apologize to Zhang Jing and said that he would never play such a prank again.

However, at that time, Zhang Jing looked at Du Yan with a very strange look for a long time, and finally said: “It’s not your problem, you don’t need to apologize.”

Zhang Jing continued to maintain this strange attitude towards Du Yan, and it did not improve at all, but became more and more strange.

The most abnormal thing was that one day, Zhang Jing actually told Du Yan that he should make more friends of the opposite sex. Du Yan even thought that the person in front of him was a stranger who had undergone plastic surgery to look like Zhang Jing.

Because Zhang Jing is a rather solitary person with a strong sense of territory, he doesn’t have many close friends except Du Yan and Shi An.

Although Du Yan has many friends, considering the personality and emotions of his best friend Zhang Jing, they are just casual acquaintances.

As for friends of the opposite sex, Zhang Jing almost always reminded Du Yan of the disadvantages of early love during the three years of junior high school. Although Du Yan didn’t take it seriously, he always subconsciously kept a safe distance from the opposite sex under the influence of what he saw and heard.

Now that he heard such words from Zhang Jing, Du Yan asked him the reason frankly.

Zhang Jing directly said that now that Du Yan is in high school, he believes that he is mature enough to control himself and that it is beneficial to have proper interactions with the opposite sex.

Du Yan thought about it and felt that Zhang Jing’s decisions all along were reasonable and for his own good. Since Zhang Jing said so, whether it was to help him calm down or for some other reason, he should just listen to Zhang Jing.

***

Zhang Jing has been very distressed recently because he feels that his best friend, who grew up with him, seems to have different feelings towards him.

The incident started that morning. Du Yan seemed to have kissed him secretly while he was sleeping. Although Du Yan later explained that it was a prank, his statement was obviously untenable.

After getting up that day, Shi An did not show any abnormality while staying in the dormitory. When he washed up in the bathroom afterward, he did not find any sign of marker on his face.

Zhang Jing could only explain Du Yan’s abnormal behavior in the cafeteria after the combination as Du Yan made up a reason because he didn’t want him to know.

Given Du Yan’s personality, if he knew about the secret kiss that morning, the other would probably get angry and even end the friendship with him.

Zhang Jing couldn’t accept that Du Yan no longer had any contact with him, so he could only pretend that he didn’t know for the time being.

Zhang Jing has been in a state of confusion during this period. His original life plan was to be best friends with Du Yan, to be neighbors for life, and to live together without missing each other’s lives.

However, now he found that Du Yan seemed to want to go a step further and develop a relationship more than just friendship.

What’s even more frightening is that he seems to have no aversion to Du Yan’s approach and even feels that this kind of relationship is more in line with his life plan than being friends.

Zhang Jing knew that he liked Du Yan, not just as a friend.

Zhang Jing is a very rational person. When he realized that his closest friend had different feelings towards him and he also had the same idea, he began to think about what to do next.

He secretly looked up a lot of relevant information, and even went to an Internet cafe to search online, and found that at least in this internal environment of China, same-sex relationships are difficult to be blessed.

If he and Du Yan really get together, it might mean the complete collapse of the two peaceful and happy families.

He thought of his Nainai, Du Yan’s grandparents, his own parents, and Du Yan’s parents. They would never accept this.

Even if Zhang Jing could risk everything for his love, he couldn’t bear to see Du Yan become shunned by his family because of this incident and never get the blessing of his family.

Zhang Jing was faced with the most difficult decision in his life. His rationality and sensibility kept arguing with each other, and he could not find a perfect solution.

Homosexual relationships are very difficult in today’s society. Before he can come up with the most appropriate solution, Zhang Jing can only distance himself from Du Yan for the time being and give him more choices.

In the more than ten years of companionship, Zhang Jing knew that Du Yan was an emotional and impulsive person, and he had to consider the possibility that Du Yan was just being carried away by the passion of adolescence.

Therefore, in order to prevent Du Yan from being misled by a momentary impulse, Zhang Jing suggested that he have more contact with the opposite sex.

However, when Du Yan accepted his advice and started to have close contact with some girls, Zhang Jing found that he could not accept it at all.

Zhang Jing sat in the classroom, looking very focused on doing his homework. But in fact, his mind was completely focused on the person in the corridor.

Du Yan was in the corridor, leaning against the railing, surrounded by several female classmates, chatting and laughing, and the atmosphere seemed good.

Zhang Jing saw that Du Yan looked relaxed and happy and felt that if they really got caught up in the whirlpool of homosexuality, he might never see such a relaxed smile on his face again.

He felt that his decision was right, and he reluctantly pulled his mind away from the outside world and started to do the questions.

When Zhang Jing finished a question and raised his head out of habit, he found that Du Yan had disappeared in the corridor. He stood up suddenly, walked to the corridor, and looked around, but found that Du Yan was nowhere to be seen.

Zhang Jing saw a female classmate who had just chatted with Du Yan still standing in the corridor, so he walked over and asked: “Hello, where is Du Yan?”

“Ah, he went to eat.”

Zhang Jing then realized that he had indeed rejected Du Yan’s invitation to have dinner together when the class was over, so was he having dinner with a girl?

He stood in the corridor, looked down, and soon found Du Yan. After discovering that it was Shi An walking beside him, Zhang Jing felt relieved, but he still felt a little uncomfortable.
