Chapter 123. Tribe

TN:- Three Chapters today!!!!!

Du Yan jumped down from Shen Heng’s arms and complained: “This won’t work. You always treat me like a glass doll. You need to train me! I want to roam around the world.”

Shen Heng smiled and said: “Okay, okay, I will make a training plan for you starting tomorrow.”

Old A, who had just walked over, was so frightened by Shen Heng’s smile that he almost popped his eyes out.

Du Yan saw the big man standing behind Shen Heng with a look of surprise on his face. The whole person seemed unwell.

He couldn’t stand the other person’s silly look, so he patted Shen Heng and also nodded toward him: “Hello.”

Shen Heng turned around and found Old A, and introduced him: “This is Old A, this is Du Yan.”

Old A was the guard captain of the 135th tribal settlement and was considered the second most powerful Infected in the tribe. He was also the one who contacted Shen Heng on the radio before.

Old A closed all the machine gun turrets around the sentry post, jumped into Shen Heng’s vehicle, and took the two of them into the camp.

Du Yan took the initiative to sit in the back of the vehicle, giving the co-passenger seat to the guide, Old A. The living area at the rear of the vehicle and the driving area in the front were separated by glass, making it a relatively independent small space.

Du Yan leaned against the window, looking out with interest at the scenery outside the window, which was completely different from Homeland. Most of the houses in this small settlement were made of metal, standing there like metal monsters. The whole place was giving the impression of heavy metal punk vibe.

Old A had known Shen Heng for a long time, and he was not afraid of Shen Heng like those who didn’t know the truth. He glanced at Du Yan and saw the surprised expression on the boy’s face, so he knew that the other party must have just come out of Homeland.

Old A asked directly: “Shen Heng. How did you come to find a boy?”

Shen Heng didn’t understand what Old A meant and replied: “You mean Du Yan? He’s pretty good.”

“…” Old A saw Shen Heng’s eyes softened mentioning Du Yan, and he stopped asking questions. He just sighed: “That’s right. You don’t care about the continuation of the bloodline. It doesn’t matter whether the person you like is a man or a woman. I envy you for being so carefree.”

“What are you envious of?” Du Yan’s voice suddenly came over.

Old A turned around and saw Du Yan had opened the glass window that separated the two parts at some point and was leaning on it to look over.

Old A saw the boy in front of him had round eyes and looked innocent and naive. When he smiled, his eyebrows were curved and seemed to have a good temper. Even though the frequent accidents in such a short period of time made Old A feel very gloomy, he felt a little relieved at this moment.

“I envy Shen Heng for having someone close to him to accompany him when he wanders around.”

“Someone close?” Du Yan pointed at himself: “Are you talking about me?”

Old A found Du Yan more and more adorable and smiled: “If not, who else?”

Du Yan raised his chin: “That’s right, Shen Heng is lucky to have me by his side.”

Seeing the young man’s proud look, Old A suddenly remembered the pet cat that his family used to keep before the war, and he reached out to pat the boy on the head.

Unexpectedly, the vehicle suddenly stopped when Old A raised his hand. Du Yan was lucky because he was leaning down, so even the sudden brake did not affect him.

Old A was in a bad situation. He was twisting his body to talk to Du Yan, and the sudden brake caused the back of his head to hit the windshield directly.

Shen Heng even said coldly: “Be careful not to break the glass. It’s hard for me to find a replacement windshield of such good quality.”

The windshield of the ‘behemoth’ was extremely strong and could withstand the sharp claws of mutant creatures. Old A was almost choked to tears when asked to pay for it by Shen Heng.

He just felt extremely wronged and asked: “Boss Shen, why did you hit the brake suddenly?”

“We’re here.” Shen Heng glanced at Old A, then opened the door and got out of the vehicle.

Old A rubbed the back of his head and felt that Shen Heng looked very scary and eerie just now. He touched his hair, thinking that it was probably because of what happened today that he thought too much.

Shen Heng was a lonely and gloomy person. This look was normal and did not mean that he had offended the other party.

Old A had just prepared himself mentally, and when he pushed the door and got out of the vehicle, he saw Shen Heng slightly opening his hands, with a doting and loving expression on his face, waiting for Du Yan to jump out of the vehicle.

It was really eye-catching. Old A turned his head away, unable to bear to look directly at it.

Old A took Shen Heng to the activity center in the center of the settlement. The two of them unloaded the anti-radiation medicines from the vehicle, counted them, and put them in the warehouse. After finishing everything, the three of them sat down in the reception room.

Shen Heng asked curiously: “Where is Old Bao? Why didn’t I see him coming to receive the supplies?”

Old Bao is the person who established the 135th tribal settlement. He is considered the leader of the tribe and the most powerful person here. All public resources of the tribe are managed by Old Bao. Now that a large amount of anti-radiation medicines are involved, he did not show up. This is indeed a bit strange.

Old A sighed: “Old Bao is missing. Actually, he can’t be considered missing, at least I saw him three days ago.”

Shen Heng frowned slightly: “What do you mean?”

Old A directly told Shen Heng what happened during this period.

Not long after Shen Heng left, an unknown powerful mutant creature suddenly appeared in the tribal settlement. At first, someone was attacked at night. Fortunately, the person attacked was an Infected with good strength. After being slightly injured, he escaped successfully.

However, the injured person did not see clearly what the mutant that attacked him looked like. He only knew that it was extremely fast and had sharp claws. He even had no time to react before his arm was torn apart.

After that, the situation got worse and worse, people started dying at night, and their bodies were mutilated. Then, Old Bao took action, ambushing at night and trying to hunt down the mutant creature.

At that time, Old A also participated in the hunting operation, but he was not as strong as Old Bao. He only saw Old Bao fighting with the mutant for a while, and then he disappeared after chasing the mutant creature.

After that, Old A only saw Old Bao once, in the warehouse of the activity center. Old Bao came back to get something, and he looked hurried. At that time, he just said that he was tracking the mutant creature and would take care of the matter.

From that day on, Old Bao disappeared. After two days of peace in the settlement, people started to go missing again. Old A could only contact Shen Heng and ask him to come back quickly to solve the problem.

“Is Old Bao dead?” Shen Heng asked directly.

Although Old A and Old Bao are close friends, Infected have lived for a long time and have become indifferent to matters such as life and death.

After hearing Shen Heng’s straightforward question, Old A did not show any surprise and replied: “I guess so. Otherwise, this mutant creature would not appear again.”

“Now I hope you can help find that thing. If this continues, everyone in the settlement will either run away or die.”

Shen Heng nodded: “Old rules.”

Old A nodded: “I have prepared everything. I will call the people who have seen the mutant creature over so you can find out the situation.”

Old A stood up and left, and Du Yan then asked: “What are the old rules?”

Shen Heng replied: “I am actually a bounty hunter. I help them hunt mutants, so I will naturally receive a reward.”

Du Yan was a little surprised and asked: “So you charge for your work? I thought you were the kind of hero in pre-war martial arts novels who was always chivalrous and brave?”

Upon hearing this, Shen Heng’s eyes suddenly turned a little disappointed: “In fact, I didn’t accept any reward at first, but later I found that it was not a good thing.”

At this point, Shen Heng paused again and asked with some trepidation: “Do you think that I am being unrighteous or something by doing this?”

Du Yan stared at him seriously and walked over: “I think you to be like this…”

He saw Shen Heng holding his breath subconsciously and smiled as he approached: “I think you to be like this is good. Helping for free is not necessarily a good thing.”

The two chatted casually for a few words, and then they saw Old A and his people come in. Unexpectedly, one of the two people who came in was an Infected, and the other was a Pure One woman with fair skin.

Infected and Pure One in front of them were a couple. Infected was named Fang Cheng, and Pure One only said that her name was Ah Mei.

They were not too surprised to see Du Yan. After all, it was not uncommon for Pure Ones to appear in such a settlement.

Fang Cheng didn’t seem injured, but Ah Mei’s arm was wrapped in gauze. They were the survivors of the first day of the attack.

Old A said to Fang Cheng: “Tell in detail what happened that night.”

Fang Cheng nodded and said: “That night, it was not long after dark. We usually walk around the camp after dinner.”

Ah Mei continued: “It’s in the small forest at the back. Although it’s a little remote, it’s very clean. I’ve never encountered any danger when I went there alone before. I don’t know what happened that day.”

Fang Cheng said: “That thing was extremely fast. I felt a strong wind coming from behind me. If I hadn’t been vigilant for many years and would not have thrown Ah Mei to the ground in one fell swoop, I’m afraid she wouldn’t have been able to save her entire hand.”

After saying that, Fang Cheng took off his clothes and turned around. There was a scar on his back, running from his left shoulder to his right side of the waist.

Infected heal very quickly after being injured. Now that a few days have passed, the wound has basically healed, with only pink marks that are different from the surrounding skin color, indicating that there has been an injury here.

Shen Heng took a closer look and said: “I can’t tell anything from this scar.”

Fang Cheng turned around and said: “Ah Mei, take off the gauze and show it to Boss Shen.”

Ah Mei nodded and raised her hand to untie the gauze wrapped around her arm. Her injury was not too serious, but due to her physical condition, the wound still looked a bit ugly.

Shen Heng looked at the wound on Ah Mei’s hand again and said: “From the marks, it doesn’t look like the mutant creatures I’ve ever seen.”

He thought for a moment and asked Fang Cheng again: “When this mutant creature approached, you didn’t notice anything at all? Including the smell?”

Shen Heng asked this question because the five senses of Infected are much more sensitive than those of Pure Ones. Logically speaking, even if the mutant moves quickly and silently, it is impossible to completely conceal the aura on its body.

Fang Cheng said: “Yes, it didn’t seem to have any smell of wild animals or insects, so I was completely unaware when it flew towards me.”

Old A added: “Old Bao and I were able to detect it in time because it had killed some people and had a bloody smell. Now that I think about it, it seems that apart from the smell of blood, there was indeed no smell of wild animals or insects.”
