Chapter 117. I Am Shen Heng

Shen Heng stared blankly for a while, his brain, somewhat sluggish due to the influence of alcohol, barely functioning.

Pure One leaning against the door looked like a teenager of 17 or 18 years old from the appearance. His eyes were tightly closed, and his breathing was steady. He looked like he was asleep.

How could this Pure One, who was still a teenager, leave his homeland and run to this area without wearing a radiation-proof suit? Shen Heng thought for a long time but could not come up with a conclusion. He stretched out his hand to test the boy’s condition. However, when he stretched out his hand halfway, he realized that this was inappropriate and withdrew his hand.

Shen Heng didn’t dare to touch this boy who was as delicate as a crystal doll. He was afraid that his physique would affect the other party.

Even if this boy walked out of the light curtain without any protection, he must have been exposed to radiation, and his future was not optimistic. However, Shen Heng still did not want to touch him for fear of further exacerbating his exposure to radiation.

Shen Heng straightened up and finally spoke. His voice was low and hoarse, and one could tell that he hadn’t spoken for a long time.

“Xiao XiongDi, wake up and leave here quickly. Go back to the light curtain now. Maybe you can still get treatment.”

Shen Heng’s voice was quite loud, and even if the person in front of him was sleeping, he would be awakened. However, the boy still closed his eyes and did not react.

Shen Heng felt that he had done his duty to remind the boy, and it was none of his business if the boy didn’t leave. He turned around and was about to leave but heard a painful groan from behind.

It sounded like a voice that wanted to speak but was unable to do so. Shen Heng looked back and saw the boy frowning and looking very uncomfortable.

Could it be that the effects of radiation have already begun, and the boy in front of him is not asleep but fainted? If left alone, this boy will probably not live until dawn.

Shen Heng has a few 100% pure anti-radiation drugs in his private collection, which can alleviate the condition of Pure One in front of him. However, 100% pure anti-radiation drugs are extremely precious, and even Shen Heng only has a few.

It is not worthwhile to use precious medicine for such a strange Pure One. Shen Heng did not want to take care of this trivial matter, nor did he want to take a troublesome Pure One home.

He turned around decisively and took a few steps forward, but he heard the boy whimpering again, like a little animal that had been wronged.

Shen Heng stopped walking. He thought that his brain might have been burned by the strong alcohol. When he heard the painful voice of the strange boy, he couldn’t just leave him be.

Although he complained about himself in his heart, he turned around and walked back honestly.

Shen Heng sighed, took out a huge piece of anti-radiation cloth from his backpack, wrapped the boy tightly, and then picked him up.

Shen Heng brought the boy inside his home. He was very aware of his physical condition. The outside world had demonized him too much. The objects that Shen Heng had touched and the place where he lived would not be affected by much radiation. As long as no one lives with him for a long time or has direct contact with him, the radiation level will not change.

Shen Heng placed the boy on the sofa in the living room. He lifted the anti-radiation cloth and looked at the boy’s exposed face, feeling somewhat at a loss.

Under the light, the boy’s face looked even whiter, and the abnormal blush on his face became more obvious.

Is he having a fever? Shen Heng subconsciously reached out his hand to touch the other person’s forehead, but at this moment, he thought of his own physical condition and silently retracted his hand.

After a while, the door of the living room closed gently, and Shen Heng left.

Du Yan opened his eyes, looked at the closed door, and fell into deep thought. It seems that Shen Heng is still a bit troublesome. His meticulous personality is completely different from his rough appearance.

Xiao Ba was somewhat saccharine, as it was rare to see Du Yan being rejected. He said: “It seems that it will be very difficult for you to get close to Shen Heng with your character this time. Didn’t you see his disgusted look? He didn’t want to get close to you at all.”

Du Yan was not at all discouraged by Xiao Ba. He just smiled and said: “Xiao Ba, you are still too young.”

Afterward, Du Yan fell asleep on the sofa peacefully. He did have a slight fever. But this was a normal reaction for a Pure One after entering a radiation zone. With his special physique, he would probably feel better tomorrow morning.

Du Yan vaguely felt something was stuffed into his ears and then heard a beeping sound.

He slightly opened his eyes and looked over, and found that Shen Heng had found an electronic ear thermometer from somewhere. The screen of the ear thermometer was bright red, and he really had a high fever.

After confirming the situation, Du Yan closed his eyes again and waited silently for Shen Heng’s reaction.

He heard Shen Heng say with some distress: “I don’t know if the Pure One can use irradiated drugs…”

Facing the situation, Shen Heng was rarely at a loss. He hadn’t had any experience of getting along with people for a long time. Even Infected kept away from him, not to mention Pure Ones.

This was the first time Shen Heng had been so close to a Pure One after waking up from the cryopod, and it was a young boy who looked so fragile and good-looking.

Du Yan closed his eyes and waited for a long time, but he didn’t see Shen Heng do anything. He thought that if he didn’t do something, this big fool would probably stand in front of the sofa all night.

Du Yan opened his eyes, glanced at Shen Heng, and said directly: “My head hurts, can you give me an ice pack?”

Shen Heng then hurriedly went to prepare an ice pack. He came back quickly, put the ice pack on the coffee table, and pushed it towards Du Yan.

Du Yan put the ice pack on his forehead, then looked at Shen Heng with a somewhat aggrieved expression: “Why do you look so disgusted with me?”

Shen Heng was even more at a loss when he saw the boy’s cat-like eyes. He shook his head and said: “Not, not disgusted. I am Shen…”

Shen Heng wanted to say that he was Shen Heng, Infected with the most severe radiation. But he was also worried that if he said it, the boy would immediately rush out. In the end, the words rolled around his lips a few times, but he swallowed them back.

“I am an Infected. I am afraid that you will be irradiated, so I dare not touch you.”

Du Yan laughed and said: “I am now in the radiation zone. If I were to be radiated, I would have been radiated long ago. There is no point in you worrying so much.”

After hearing this, Shen Heng sat down near Du Yan. Although he kept a certain distance, he was no longer as cautious as before.

Du Yan glanced at him and asked: “Shushu, what’s your name?”

Shen Heng was choked by the word ‘Shushu’. Then he thought that if he took into account the freezing period, he was already several hundred years old, and the boy in front of him was only about 17 or 18 years old at most. The other party was already giving him face by not calling him ‘Yeye’.

“Don’t you want to tell me? It’s okay, you can just say a code name.” Du Yan added sympathetically when he saw that Shen Heng didn’t answer for a long time.

Shen Heng saw that the young man had misunderstood him, and he knew that he looked a little fierce when he kept a straight face and didn’t say anything, so he smiled stiffly and said: “My name is Shen Heng, my real name, not a code name.”

With a desperate move, Shen Heng gave out his name. He did not want to deceive the boy, so he could only wait for the boy to show a look of fear and leave in a panic.

Unexpectedly, the young man in front of him still replied with a smile: “Shen Heng, this name is quite nice. My name is Du Yan.”

Shen Heng was a little surprised and asked: “You are so calm when you hear my name, don’t you know me?”

Du Yan looked at him strangely and said: “Are you some kind of celebrity? I must recognize you.”

Shen Heng opened his mouth, but still didn’t say what was in his mind.

He thought that being able to spend just this one night with a boy who was not afraid of him at all was a small comfort in his long life.

When the day breaks, he will send Du Yan away. In just one short night, his special physique will not be able to affect the other party.

With such a small hope, Shen Heng swallowed the words to explain his identity and just looked at Du Yan quietly.

Du Yan felt a little uncomfortable being looked at by him, so he changed the subject and said: “I feel very uncomfortable. Please tell me some stories. I heard that Infected often go on adventures everywhere. I have never left Homeland No. 1, nor have I seen other cities.”

Shen Heng looked at him. His expression softened, and he said: “Okay.”

Shen Heng began to talk about his experience, starting from his first time hunting a mutant.

He wasn’t very good at expressing himself, and his story was a bit dry, but Du Yan was very supportive. His eyes looked at him like twinkling stars, with infinite admiration and yearning.

Du Yan said: “In fact, I have always felt that the lives of Infected are much more interesting than those of Pure Ones. Since I was born, I have never left that cramped place. I always see the same scenery. It is so boring.”

Shen Heng thought that the cramped place Du Yan mentioned was Homeland No. 1. Most of Pure Ones would never leave their homeland from birth to death. Even with the protection of anti-radiation suits, they were afraid of unexpected situations.

Du Yan was probably spoiled by his parents, so he was never allowed to leave the light curtain.

Shen Heng has never liked the infinitely fearful and fragile Pure Ones. However, the lost boy in front of him made him soften his heart.

Shen Heng’s fingers moved slightly. He wanted to pat the boy’s head, but he knew he couldn’t touch him.

Du Yan reminded Shen Heng of an experience he had in the past when he found a cat in a freezer in an underground shelter.

The shelter had been destroyed, and all the people in the cryopod had died from radiation. The cat huddled under its owner’s body and woke up unexpectedly after being thawed.

Shen Heng looked at the soft and ignorant snow-white cat and finally couldn’t help but step forward and gently touched it. Unexpectedly, the cat struggled to death a few minutes later.

Shen Heng knew that it was because the cat’s radiation level had already reached its limit, and his involuntary touch only accelerated the cat’s death.

However, he was still very upset at that time.

The boy in front of him was the same. Even though Shen Heng knew that his touch would only slightly increase the intensity of the radiation, he did not dare to touch him, just like the cat back then.

A soft and fragile life should not stay with Shen Heng. Du Yan should return to the light curtain and live out his life being carefully cared for.
